    John Deere X340

    Sometimes the springs get put on wrong for the tensioner. In which case there is not enough tension on the belt and the belt gets thrown. Make sure the spring is providing plenty of tension, if not, look where it might need to be attached to in place of where it currently is.

    Bug stopped a John Deere tractor!

    Happens pretty often here. The lady bugs are really attracted to the diesel. On a lot of the compact JD's they get stuck in the narrowest point in the fuel line where it makes a turn. Then they make it through and cover the filter. Have no idea how they get in, perhaps through the bulk fuel tanks.

    anyone need a flashlight?

    Just about everyone of our techs in our AG shop carry a pen light, maybe 3/8 inch thick, in their shirt pocket. They are really handy. These have a JD logo on them and cost about $20. Made by streamlight. Says stylus on the clip. Young or old, we all carry them.

    Shortage of young mechanics?

    You are wrong there. Every one of our mechanics make that or more. Of course they work about 55 hours a week. I believe our fresh out of school techs make about $13 an hour or more. Steve (in central IL)

    Diesel vs Gas in tractors

    Diesel produces approximately 130,500 btu per US gallon. Gasoline produces approximately 115,000 btu per US gallon. Diesels turn at lower speeds to produce max power vs the speed of a gasoline engine, thus less wear on parts.

    Stihl FS55 Weed eater help with engine problem

    Check with your dealer. A lot of the carburetors have subbed up to one that only costs $23. Hard to justify pulling one apart to clean out at that cost. Steve

    I would check the flywheel key first. It may have been sheared.

    John Deere L110 Fuel problem

    The thingy is a fuel solenoid and cuts off fuel to the carb when not charged. So when you shut off the machine, the plunger inside closes and fuel is not allowed into the bowl. It could be the culprit. Just take off the bowl and hit the key with the solenoid wired up and see if it actuates...

    Starter on a JD 316

    Did you try a wrench or wire to go from one side of the solenoid to the other? Get anything? If not, its a bad solenoid or a bad ground, if your battery is good. I would begin at the ground. You will have to pull the motor to change the starter. Steve

    JD 425 runing rough/randomlyt quits

    Check your gas cap. Should be a vent hole in it. If the vent hole is plugged, motor will act as you describe. When it does it again, remove the gas cap and see if the engine recovers. Either clean out the cap or buy a new one. Steve

    JD F935 dies

    Probably one of the safety switches: brake, seat, pto, neutral. Did I miss any? Get out a multimeter or at least a 12 volt test light. check that you are getting power at each switch, then reconnect the switch and check that power gets past the switch. Good luck.
