    Fuel Line

Just wanted to show you all the fuel line that was in my 8N when i bought it. Left side was connected directly to the tank (no sediment bowl) and the right side to the carb. The bend at the very right is kinked...looks like it was bent with pliers. Needless to say, i replaced everything with a...

    Another 8N that wont start

I've got a 51 8N converted to 12v that i start up and run every week (for 17 years now). Today it just would not fire up. It cranks just like normal. I've determined that there is no spark to the plugs. I checked the coil and got 4 ohms. I checked the connections/wires and all looked good. I...

    Mowing with an 8N

Just curious if anyone else uses their N's for finish mowing? I picked up a BEFCO 96-inch finish mower about 20 years ago and it has worked great to mow 3.5-acres. The mower is probably on the upper end of what my 8N can handle, but so far, no problems. [/img:81b4443c4d]

    Tractor Jack

I've had a tractor jack for about ten years, and never needed it until today. I must say, it's pretty impressive in its simplicity.

    8N Fuel Line Replacement

Hello everybody. I finally got around to changing my fuel line today, as i figured it was a dangerous situation left from the previous owner. As you can see, they had a 1/4 turn stop cock screwed into the fuel tank, then a filter, then another shutoff valve, then a filter and finally metal...

    Starter Switch Replacement

Hello everybody and good morning from rainy southern Appalachia...The starter button on my 1951 8N is beginning to fail, and needs to be replaced. The starting setup on my tractor is a bit unusual and was set up that way when i bought the tractor 15 years ago. The starter button has no markings...

    New fuel line

Hello: I just purchased a new steel fuel line and sediment bowl from this site for my 1951 8N. Do the threads on the sediment bowl housing and the elbow strainer at the carb need to have plumbers tape on them? or just assemble without?? Thank you

    8N is tough to start

My 1951 8N has been started and run a least once a week for the past 12 years...until now. I went to start her up and she cranks over, but will NOT catch. Immediately upon cranking, i smell gasoline. Thus far, i have checked the points (correctly gapped), checked the spark plug wires and coil...

    Loss of Power

While plowing snow the other day, my 1951 8N lost power. I had been plowing for about an hour, but stopped for about 2 minutes (left the tractor running). When i hopped back on and put it in gear, it wanted to stall out as soon as the clutch engaged. I had to let it run another 5 minutes or so...

    8N not starting

Good evening: My previous post from the other day is below. After looking over the advice given, i checked the points and they looked good, and had the proper gap. The rotor looked in good condition as did the inside of the distributor cap. However, when i tested the plugs, i am getting no...

    8N not starting

Hello: I own a 1951 8N. In the 11 years i have owned it, she has never had trouble starting...until today. The engine cranks very nicely, but i get the smell of fuel quickly, and she never catches. The first thing i did after she wouldn't start was change out the sparkies (H-12's) for a fresh...

    snap ring question

I am trying to replace the oil seal on the pto shaft of my 1951 8N. I attempted to remove the snap ring (Fig FO128 part #8)and am not succeeding. I was prepared for a snap ring with holes for my snap ring pliers. But, there are no holes. I cannot seem to pry it out. Any tips on how to get the...

    ORC - Part 2

The continuing saga of the PTO shaft oil seal replacement...i obtained a 5/16" punch and drove the roll pin out of the ORC, however, the punch became stuck in the ORC. After multiple attempts to free the punch, "somehow" the punch broke off. The break is at a 30deg angle. After trying to drive...

    ORC Question

I have a 1950 8N and need to replace the oil seal on the PTO shaft. But first, I need to remove the ORC. After removing the two grease fittings, i was expecting to drive out a pin, but there isn"t one...i can see daylight from one grease fitting hole to the other. Yet, i cannot pull the ORC...

    OT - Carb question

My lawn tractor (JD-130) has a 23hp Kohler. When changing the spark plugs, i noticed that they are charcoal black, indicating that the fuel mixture is too rich. The Kohler manual says to adjust the low idle fuel needle. My question is, do i screw it in tighter or out looser? Intuitively it seems...

    OT Finish Mower

I have a Befco finish mower that i use behind my 1950 8N. I try to take good care of it by cleaning it after every use and greasing it regularly. One item that i have never serviced is the gearbox as i am hesitant to remove the top of it without having knowledge of how the gears are configured...
