I have a 340 ind. also. The trans is seperate from the diff. I just recently drained & refilled my trans. What came out looked like vanilla milkshake due to water seeping in around the shifter levers. I let it drain for days with the fill cap and plug out to let it dry out as much as possible... -

I would think if you have 2 wires at each socket, one would be the positive coming from the switch and the other is the negative, attached to the frame/sheetmetal. They just use the frame or sheet metal as the negative, no need to run the second wire back to the battery since that negative goes... -
