1086 air-conditioning

Had a condenser leaking on the ole thing
In the process of replacing it hit me to maybe add an electric pusher fan in front of the condenser.

Seems it couldn't hurt anything but wondering if anyone here has done it an if its worth the time an trouble doing so

I already have the fan kit i bought for something else an never used

Thoughts?
Personal experiences doing so?

I’d have to see the unit and it held in the position you’re mounting it. I think there is a possibility that the structure of it could block more area an actually negate the purpose you have in mind. Those tractors were not known to run hot, in fact many did quite well even with the juice screw tweaked a bit. Keeping the radiator blown out clean and an occasional wash job is probably more important. Keep the fan belt tight and making sure the pulley grooves are not worn, including the crank pulley are also nearly as important.

It would be strictly for the ac condenser
Tractor never runs hot unless things get plugged up
AC works good just could be better on some days.

The fan is just one of those that zip tie mounts to the condenser coil.


Would wire it up to run only when the ac was on.

Haven't fully convinced myself it would make a huge difference is why I was wondering if anyone else had with good results

Simple enough to try it and see what changes it makes in the high pressure. I've done it many times on other tractors. It can make a significant improvement in lowering the high pressure in most cases. I admit with the size of the condenser the IH tractors I see rarely have much problem in that area, but a few zip ties and a couple jumper wires to test it out. What have you got to lose?

Probably stick it up there when I charge it up an see how much it actually drops the head

Can’t see it making much difference on the 86 series tractors but might be a good idea on the 88 series. The condenser is mounted in the upper part of the radiator and oil cooler in the lower but on the 88 series the condenser is mounted in the lower part of the radiators and oil cooler is in the upper part and with forward air flow it has been an issue with high head pressure. A larger condenser is no offered for the 88 series. Wondering if you mount the fan like said if when not powered if the air flow will cause the fan to spin?

I would still like to see the fan. The motor is probably at least 3-4” in diameter. That is a a pretty good spot of blocked air right there.

Hardest work she does anymore is a 535 baler so engine overheating wouldn't be an issue but might help as much as it hurts canceling itself out.

As I said, in my opinion that thing is giving plenty of blockage. Just that outer ring that is an inch wide. I’m not going to try to calculate its surface area but it is more than you think. It all goes back to the “no harm in trying” aspect.

Yea for sure.
Its works fine as is but could always be better.
I definitely wouldn't be ordering a fan if I didn't have one handy.

I only spend 20 hours a year tops in the thing but its in the heat of summer usually an after I been out sweating the jewels off working on air-conditioners all day at the day job.

All those fins should push a lot of air. Won't hurt to try it.

Give it a try. All the auto today use one or two similar fans.
