I cut second cut yesterday. Biggest crop I have ever had. I have only tried second cut 3 times since 2008. I fertilized this year, I did one other year and so no difference. I ran out half way across the field this spring. We had rain this year like no other year. I think I could see a difference from where I had spread and not spread but not enough to pay for the fertilizer, I don't think. I will spread next year again even though some areas was so thick it was logged and brown and wet at the bottom. Made for hard cutting with the mole hills in it.. I think rain had more to do with it than fertilizer but I will try a few years and see if it will pay for itself in time.

If we don't get some rain pretty quick we won't have any 2nd cutting much. less than a tenth of an inch in the past 6 weeks. It rains to the north and south of us but nothing here. The grass is brown and dormant in the yard and our hay fields have only grown maybe 8" since we mowed them in late May. I sure am glad I don't have a bunch of cattle to feed this winter, in fact I have no livestock any more but I sure feel sorry for those around me that do have them. The weeds tho just keep right on growing.

Same here Keith. Very dry summer. Up till last Tuesday's storm we were over six inches below average on rainfall.
