338 wire tie

Can anyone tell me how to get the wire gets started on the knotter?

Look in manual, if no manual Deere has online publications you can look at. I am guessing it is a Deere by the number??

It would be a good idea to check wire guide & rollers for grooves, flat spot or stuck rollers before threading wire. I agree with Matthies that operators manual will have your answer. Wire is routed out of wire box after shipping retainer straps securing wire during shipping have been cut being sure "to choose starting end". Finish end of wire should be tied to wire box to keep it from getting tangled in wire coils. Next wire should be routed through porcelain insulator then around large plastic roller then route wire through front wire guide under roller. With needles in home position route wire over needle roller & under rear wire guide roller. Tie end of wire around needle frame. Repeat process on opposite wire on opposite rollers/guides. Now go feed some hay into baler & needles should put wires into wire tying system.
