72 Ford 2000 ignition

Have restored my '72 Ford 2000. Looks great. But after a real search found the resistance wire to the coil had rotted off. Well, I'm now 86 years old and some of my parts have rotted off too!!! BUT... When I spliced it back onto to the 'start' hot wire to coil, the reading is still 12+ volts on switch setting for 'run'. I suppose there is a wrong hookup on the switch as it has way too many terminals. Does this hurt to run 12 volts on run? Any ideas? Thanks.
