I posted this on the 8N forum last week and didn t get any real answer so I m asking here. What would cause a brand new(from this site)proof meter to run backwards(idle 2000RPM,high speed 200RPM)? This is on a 1951 8N. The brand new drive cable was about an inch and a half short also. Someone suggested an NAA gov had gotten installed but NAA has totally different gov.

don't know what you mean by "run backwards". ???

The tach scale shows high RPMs at idle and low RPMs at
high engine speed. It has to be put together wrong. Im curious if anyone else has bought one of these lately and experienced the same problem. The hour meter looks like it is running backwards also. Ill see what mfg. information I can get off the box, I still have it.

oes face look like this? If it is anything like the original, it can not be " put together wrong" and make it read backwards. It is just one cup spinning inside another, magnetically coupled, and direction needle moves is same direction as the input cable turns.

just a swag here, but did you get a meter off of a jubilee or a 601 tractor?? do they all run the same direction? Or did the needle just jump the stop pin... what direction does the meter move?? cw or ccw?

Or its a meter for south of the equator (sic)
