Got the 986 split that the other week would clutch to let it shift. I post a pic but the throw out bearing works but needs replaced and one of the small bolts on the 3 tabs that contacts the throw out bearings was laying in the bottom of the casting, going to pull rest of it apart since I am in there and replace needed components. I expected more. But not done yet. Thanks

While your in there check the wear on the splined shaft going into the back of the pressure plate . That is ho w the live power for hydraulics,PTO and such drive. IF hals worn out change it or you will be going in there again in about a year. Also check the bearings and bushing in thew front of the transmission . They come out with that flat round casting with about 5or 6 bolts into the front of the transmission case there. Also don't pry to hard on that casting it has a lip that will break off pretty easy there is an o-ring around the edge of it to seal it. At least all the 08,56,66 series is like that and would expect that to be the same. There is also a difference in whether it has a TA or not for those parts in the front casting. I put a bulkhead fitting in the bottom cover to with a hose to grease that throw out bearing without having to remove that lid. Just drilled a hole in the corner and fit hose and fitting in so it clears moving parts zerk out the bottom did that to every one of our 06,56,66 tractors. Only needs greased about once a year sure makes it easy and if somebody not familiar with the tractor can get it without missing it.
