Aftermarket Headlights

Has anyone ever used these aftermarket headlights? They generate a lot of heat, and I am concerned about the wire going to them getting hot. I'm using a 12-gauge wire now, but dang, it feels pretty warm. Has anyone switched to an LED bulb?

All kinds of them from small to large are used on off road rigs here. Never heard of anyone having problems with the wiring getting hot.

Normal headlights used to draw about 2.5 amps in many tractor lights. .. your halogen bulb may produce a lot of heat from the bulb, but not from the current draw.. So 12 ga is an overkill, but a heat tolerant "insulation" is most important. 12 ga is rated for 25 amps... tw and uf conductors are rated up to 140 degrees. Due to the ventilation or lack of.... in the bulb housing a higher insulation may be mandatory. I have seen some with the white fiberglass overlay inside the hi powered bulb housing.

yep, put them bright bulbs in the jeep and had trouble with the connections at the bulb getting hot and had to replace them ends also. jeep does not have very heavy wires in that harness.

Bulb getting hot does not equate to wires getting hot. Wires get hot if they're being expected to handle more Amps than they are rated for.

However, in this day and age, it makes no sense to use incandescent lighting. LED all the way. It's better in every way.

i have replaced the lights on my 584 and 706 with them, they came form A&I. and also have lights in boxes for my 1466 when i get to rewiring it this fall. i had no problems.

I agree, except for the way they look.

They just don't look right on vintage cars, trucks, or tractors.
