Allis chalmers WD

Just bought a Allis chalmers wd. I am going to restore it. Went to start the engine and it runs good. No smoking. Oil started running out of the front of the oil pan and the oil pressure was maxed out on the gauge. Where should I start on finding out why it has so high of oil pressure?

I would start by draining everything out of the engine oil pan. I say "everything" because, who knows what's in there. Then put a new, correct filter on it. C159 or equiv, rag stuffed, not paper element, and then start it again. Six qts of good oil and a filter shouldn't break the bank. At least, that will be a starting point and then go from there. Get an operators manual at the very least. As far as oil is concerned, I think the book calls for 30w in the summer but we used 10w30 year round in our '49 WD and it still runs like a champ. One of the best tractors ever offered (in its size class) for the money.
