another tractor accident

Well I have gone and done it. For the first time in 76 years I have a cast on my body all because of my own stupidity and neglect. I have a lawn tractor that has been in the shop about 4 months this year so I quit taking it there and started to do my own repairs again. After replacing a spindle, tearing up and replacing a drive bely, breaking the cable that operates the blades and installing a new one I forgot to fix the brakes. Thhis afternoon I went up a neighbors drive to the top of the hill to taLK TO him and turned the ingnition off leaving the tractor in gear. When getting ready to leave I pushed in the clutch to start the engine and away I went down the hill in a hurry. I was able to miss the trees (6) but came to an abrupt stop when I hit the culvert. I should say the tractor stopped, I didnt. ending up flat on my back. Ankle hurt some but I walked home, got the Farmall A and went back to tow thw LT up the hill to My house. Worked great. Then, my ankle really started to hurt and had a lump the size of a crabapple above it. Went to ER and found out I chipped a ankle bone. My wife says I have to quit all this machinery stuff and I told her over my dead body and she says"that what Im afraid of"

Wow! I guess you are lucky, coulda been alot worse. The neighbor bumped his 8N into neutral workin on a hill and went flying down into the creek bed just as fast a she would roll. He was lucky too. Well, time to fix those brakes. Replaced them on my old craftsman. Was shocked to see how little contact surface there actually was, so it needs to be in good shape.

I'm 69 and your wife sounds just like mine you are to old to be fixing and running that old junk.
