hello all, i have a small i.d. plate that is 4"x5" and it shows a man on a very early tractor. and it has gargoyle mobil oil"e" for crank case and "c" for transmission..at bottom of this plate it says "the cultitractor Co. u.s.a." where and when were they in busness?are they a sister company? any help would sure nice. thank you and please reply someone..thank you

I THINK there either was more than one "Cultitractor" or the term was used by more than one company for a small, simple tractor; I seem to recall seeing the name used but don't have any specific notes, other than:
United Tractors Corp, NY, NY, produced the Mohawk, a 7-12 or 8-16, 1920-21 or so, that was sold both as Mohawk Cultitractor and as the Cultitractor (per Wendel etc).
Wendel also had a note re' a Cultitractor company organised 1918 in Minneapolis, Minn, but he apparently found no proof of any production.
A query re' a similar plaque ("The Cultitractor Co., USA") was apparently posted 10-16-06 or so on the Lugs And Cleats forum at smokstak (if my note is correct)...That's all I have.
