Anyone remember Torque Toppers?

I had the second modified tractor in Texas in the early 70s had a lot of fun 88 Oliver with a 454 chevy tunnel ram and two 1050 dominator holleys 24.5 cut tires did really well until the other guys learned how to get the horses of a blown hemi to the ground they took all the fun out of it then I ran sled for a couple of years gave up on pulling [ I didn't have the money to play] really do miss it still

I don't remember that brand but there were quite a few "red rooster" kits around locally which was the same thing propane bottle and a switch to let it in the intake when you needed a few extra HP

When we were pulling our tractor we were pulling in a light enhanced class. Oliver 88. There was a cubic inch limit. No cut tires, drawbar height, length, and engine rpm were all checked before you could pull. Obviously weight also. If you met the rules you could pull as fast as you could drag the sled. We pulled a few times where there were speed limits. Boring ! As long as everyone has similar engine size, limits on engine mods such as turbos, weight ect why restrict speed ? I’m guessing because there are very few rules as far as what you’re allowed to run. To me personally speed pulls are extremely boring. Coming from a puller.
I agree with you. I don't even go to local pulls anymore. You can go to the restroom, stop and get something to eat, come back and the same tractor is still pulling down the track. If I want a nap, I'll do it in my recliner, not in the bleachers in the hot sun.

The basic reason for speed limits is stopping the substitution of power and speed for traction and forcing stock tractors out. Now, it is true that speed limits reduce the excitement, BUT, keep in mind that 6,000 - 9,000 are usually at 6MPH, and heavier tractors usually come under the faster or no limit farm stock or hot farm. Then also, between every two low speed limit classes you are looking at a faster enhanced class. So as long as guys are paying attention and someone is assigned to watch the guys who tend to get distracted and make sure that rthey are in line it makes for a good show.

Agreed, I would add that the farm stock speed limit classes are not really built around spectators entertainment but to attract pullers. Those type pulls around here usually attract zero spectators other than family of the pullers

My Dad had a kit on his 4010. He also had a pyrometer. He eventually burned a valve. It made more hp. But you could turn the diesel pump up and get the same hp. The kit had a small demand regulator. Now if you wanted to put an oxygen bottle on it, that made a difference, if you could get enough diesel from your pump.
Not oxygen , that would turn the combustion chamber into a torch .
Nitrous Oxide in the other hand will supply the O2 required to burn the extra fuel .

There is a very well attended fair near the largest city in the state. They have a lot of bleacher space and there has always been a lot of people watching. Three-four hundred people cheering when you have a good pass is pretty cool.
