I have a TE20 and been told I need a 6 volt type 511 battery. Cannot find this battery and how many CCA's do I need??

As many as you can get.

Measure the battery box or tray to determine the biggest battery it can hold. Buy the biggest battery (as measured in cold cranking amps) that will fit in your battery box or tray.

Most battery manufacturers only make a couple sizes in 6 volts anymore, so it won't take long to decide.

cool thanks right now I'm using a battery from tractor supply and just doesn't seem to have the amps I need

On 6 volt systems I prefer 00 Gauge Battery n Starter n Ground cables which can help reduce cable voltage drop and improve cranking performance. Id also remove, clean n wire brush, n reattach each n every battery n starter n ground cable end/connection/terminal which might help.

I am using a 8V battery with a 6V system battery charges fine with a little more spin on start. It doesnt effect lights or starter. I have a TO-20.Just something to consider. Regards, John

Don't forget that 6 volt systems need to flow twice as many amps to do the same amount of work as a 12 volt system. That means bigger battery cables. Don't buy the cheapo cables, they will just cause you trouble.

Keep the connections clean, bright and tight. And don't neglect the ground side either. Most people seem to forget that.

Go to a welding supply shop and get 00 cable and some ends to fit. That will make a huge difference. I just made cables yesterday for my A. The supplies cost me 18.00 and I soldered the ends on instead of crimping.
