Broken hi low shift rail

I have 1980 ford 535 industrial tractor. Recently the hi low rail that shifts it int gear broke. Does anyone know how to remove the rail?

You will probably need a manual to tell you how to remove and re install it. I've never worked on that model but I figure the transmission will have to come out. That means pulling the tractor apart (engine from trans and probably trans from rear deferential. Like I said these are just my thoughts. you might have better results on the Ford forum down below

Hello Bub, welcome to YT! Not sure if you might have a paper parts book, would seem unlikely if you asked that question. Here is a link to the manufacturer’s parts catalog. CNHI Ford 535 parts catalog Just as example in the Transmission Functional Group look at subsection 07C01. You can see the shift rods slide out of holes in the end of the housing when the main tractor sections are removed from each other.

Keith Molden is correct. It will require a double split, ie. removing the transmission entirely from the tractor as you will need to get into it from both ends. I did it once 13? years ago. Wasn't too bad and I'm a hobbiest, not a professional wrench.
It is not a job we could talk you through here. I strongly suggest you get the I&T FO-41 manual which covered it well.
For future advice on that model tractor I suggest you post on the Ford specific forum. Good, knowlegable bunch of guys there.
