Case 602 cutter shaft

I need to replace the front u-joint on my Case 602 cutter. Could have posted on the implement site, but it is Case and you guys are the best. I cannot get the shaft apart to work on the u-joint. One picture shows how the shaft tubes are in front. I assumed they slid at that junction but they ain't movin'. I tried to slide the whole assembly off the inner shaft but it only goes so far and no further, shown in the other picture. Before I force it I figured I better ask before I break something. I have 2 other choices: Unbolting te shaft from where it attaches to the cutter, or changing the ujoint in place. I don't have a press, but there might be enough room for hammer and socket action. I know these things come apart some how. I would prefer doing it that way than while it is in place. Thanks All in advance.

Some of those old drive lines have a roll pin in the end of the inner shaft to prevent them coming apart. I have never taken one apart so cant help with how. I do know they are locked together some how tho. A second look i see what looks like a hole through the outer shaft just at the end of the shield in the second Pic. That may be how to get the pin out.
