Checking sleeve O-rings

Want to check the O-rings on the sleeves on the 1755 Oliver I'm working on. Have the block half full of antifreeze. Going to pressurize the block to check the O-rings. I think it has a 7 psi cooling system. Any need to go higher than this to check the O-rings? Thanks.

I think it has a 7 psi cooling system? Look at the top of the radiator cap, it should be stamped with the pressure it is set at? Go with that.

My older Stant pressure tester has the system test points a couple pounds higher than the cap pressure rating. A 7-psi cap/system has about a 9-psi test point.

Use caution if you are pressurizing it with compressed air, not a cooling system test pump with gauge.

My first JD was a well used propane 4020. Upon examining it at the dealer, I noticed oozing liquid from the side of the block. It was a 6 cylinder and had 6 holes about midway up the block. Had no opinion one way or the other about them. Bought it for a ridiculous price...$5k but I thought I just had to have it for several (ill thought out) reasons.

Get it home and have problems. Bought an I and T manual and started digging into this and that. Get into the engine proper, find out it's sleeved and find out that the little holes on the side of the block are to tell you that either your oil Oring or coolant Oring have failed......depending on what's oozing out.

This was back in the mid 90's and I find out that JD used a red and a black Oring to seal their sleeves. The black was for oil and the red for coolant. Upon pulling the sleeves, find that the PO had been there but didn't "do that" correctly. Had the Orings backwards causing the failure. Additionally it had other engine problems costing me $1k in parts and a lot of work.

Over the couple of years I had it, including finding a 157 I think was the model number loader with 8' bucket, it was the biggest piece of (expensive) crap I ever had on this farm. Will never have a propane tractor again....diesel or nothing.
