Compression tester

Does anyone know where I can buy a compression tester for a Ford 172ci diesel engine. The last time I needed one, I had to borrow one from a dealer.

Do you have an Oreillys close by? they have loaners or you can purchase.

I have tried the generic testers. The one for the ford is larger. I actually bought a set that was supposed to fit all diesels and they were the wrong size.

I have a Harbor Freight set with several adapters, the one that works for my 65/later Fords should work on earlier models
I did have to grind the corners of the hold down the clear the head better

I think a 65 diesel is a 3 cylinder. The 172 is a 4 cylinder. Not sure it’s the same injector ports. The 172 tester is much bigger than the later models.

65/later can be 3cyl, 4cyl or 6 cyl but the injectors all fit the same way, on earlier diesels the injectors are under the valve cover but still use the 2 bolt style flange to hold the injectors
The adapter hold down clap in my kit is a blocky piece of steel that would probably need to be ground down in some places to fit but should work

I have a similar kit that came from Amazon or Ebay, can’t remember which. Same issue, the H bar was too long to fit. I made a new shorter one since I had the tools to do it handy and figured I may need the longer one someday.

Worst case, take an injector out, take it to a machine shop, and have them make a adaptor, using the injector as a pattern.

Shouldn’t cost too much, it’s a pretty simple machining process.

I’ve got a lathe, that’s what I’d do.
