Cub 154 low boy

Was mowing with the cub when it just died. Turns out the positive battery cable was rubbing against the clutch, shorted out and tore in two. Now the charging rate is erratic. The starter and generator are one unit. Is there anything special about the voltage regulator on these? Thanks.

You do need to use the voltage regulator for the starter generator. There are lots of regulators that look the same, but won't work.Sounds like something fried when it shorted. There is a testing procedure to follow, and can isolate the problem components.Get the book and follow the steps.Weak points in those are the ammeters and ignition switches.I put a wiring harness in one for somebody last winter,he always had erratic charging and running problems. All his terminals were a little crusty,so he just went for the new harness. It ended 25 years of fighting with it.
