Day from h3ll

Today was the worst day I've ever had for things going wrong/sideways.
Started off by stubbing a toe on my right foot so hard I'm sure I broke it, it's many shades of purple and black tonight.
Shortly after the toe incident I dropped a can of pop/soda on the kitchen floor but it hit the sharp corner if the dishwasher on its way to the floor. Ever try to stop a can from spraying everywhere, well today I muffed it, sent the can skittering across the floor, pop all over everything.
3rd and grand finale was I busted my phone while helping a buddy recover one of his trucks that quit.
Fell out of my pocket and lauded screen down on a rock, yes I have a good protective case on it.
I'm going to bed, had enough of today !

Maybe, just maybe, you've used up your allotment of bad luck for a while. The soda thing is totally relatable. Mine involved a Border Collie puncturing a can in the cup holder of the car trying to lick the cold condensation. Messed up the car.

There have been days I think if I stayed in bed, a bed spring would probably break and poke me.

Sounds like you're young and never farmed for a living. What you describe sounds like an average day before I even get out the door to do chores. If I could write all of this stuff down in a self deprecating way, I could probably make good money as a writer. God knows I'd never run out of material.

Last Tuesday for example: My son wanted me to come down before he went to work and move some sand so they could set cement forms for his new shop. I had a short board meeting at the township hall at 10 to sign some forms. I went to the barn first thing to check on things and there was a 15 month old heifer that wasn't supposed to even be bred, laying there straining to have a calf. I went to get the tractor and mixer in to the bunker silo to load feed and there was a flat rear tire on the tractor.

I threw in the towel and went and moved the sand. I told him to come home with me and get the heifer in to the pen where the chute is. We got her in and left her and we hooked the mixer to another tractor. It didn't have a tongue jack and the wodow maker jack kept tipping over, so I put the loader bucket in the back of the mixer to hold the tongue up. I got cattle fed, made it to the meeting and when I got home, the heifer was still standing up and not doing anything.

I started hauling hay and at about 1, the wife came out to the barn and said the heifer was laying down straining and she could see something there. We went in and got her in the chute, then worked for a solid hour getting a chain on the calf, hooking a log chain to a pole and pulling with a come-along. We pulled the heifer's head right out of the head chute, but put a bar in behind her to hold her. Inertia was getting to me and I was a sweaty bloody mess, but we got it out and it started breathing.

I finished hauling hay, then beat the tractor tire down and got it off the rim. The calf still wasn't up after supper. I could barely get out of my chair. being 71 will do that to you I guess. I mixed up some colostrum and tried to bottle feed it, but it wouldn't suck so I tubed it, then went straight in and took a shower. I was finally in my recliner and didn't want to move the rest of the night. Think that happened? You're funny of you think so. One of my wife's friends called at twenty minutes to nine and asked if I could come and help her son unload a refrigerator when he got home. I told her I had taken a shower and would have to get dressed. She said he really needed the truck to go to work the next morning. I told her to call when he got there and I'd come down. She finally called at ten after nine and I had to go manhandle a refrigerator.

I don't actually farm, would love to a hobby farm but that likely will never happen.
I grew up around a farm in the summers so I'm very familiar with farming.
I'm actually retired due to a severe back injury but so dam busy all the time.
I have a camp on 100 acres but it's 90% solid stone.

Funny you should mention that. I had a bad week followed by a bad day back in the era of water beds. After working a week from hell on the road, I found out our baby sitters house caught on fire (with our preschool kids still there) which caused my wife to be late to pick me up at the airport. I finally got a ride home and went directly to bed and thought finally this bad week is over. I was wrong. For some reason a screw decided to fail and put a hole in the water bed. This occurred mid December in South Dakota. So I had to get up, Put pressure on the hole so the whole bedroom would not flood. Called to my wife to go to the garage to get the garden hoses to empty the water bed. She got them but remember December in SD, the hoses were frozen. So there was quite a mess in the bedroom. I got the mattress repaired and refilled it. Then it was time to cleaned up bedroom. As I was cleaning and moving things around, i picked up a boot and tossed it aside. It went though a bedroom window to the outside cold. Remember December in SD.................
