Finished a pretty big rehab on my brush mower in the last few weeks. Most of that time was waiting on parts but...
Brought it up to the property yesterday and mowed for two and today for about 3 hours.
Mower and tractor ran good and I'm pleased.
The property needs to be mowed at least once a year or I start losing the open areas.
And since I insist on driving old tractors I failed to get it done last year.
But both mower and tractor are running good now and I'll mow it twice this year.
Anyway, my theory is that the forest is like rust in that it never sleeps.
You can hold it back but you'll never win.

I mow my wooded area with a walk behind brush mower at least once per year to keep buckthorn at bay. Ron MN

Spray woods roads with boomless nozzle every year or so with brush and weed killer to keep growth back. Spray the grassland with grazon/brush killer to control wild growth of trees. Mow it once a year in the fall. Since I started spraying it is easier to mow. Not any weeds or wild growth.

I did an annual mowing job yesterday. It is around eight acres and one side involves a lot of backing in between and under trees. The shifting and steering caused some discomfort to my wrecked shoulder which came to haunt me during the night. I kept thinking of taking a serious pain reliever but never woke up enough to actually do something about it. My 'phone tells me that I was awake for an hour and a half.

Glad to see that tractor out working instead of taking up space in the shop 😅
I need to repair the deck on my trailed 10ft cutter I use behind my 4000
I need to cut back tree limbs growing out into the fields that force me out from the boarders allowing brush to take over

I have done a lot of repairs on our 6 foot Bush Hog, and it keeps going, we have a lot of rocks and stumps, all hard on a mower. It's still too wet to mow some of our trails, it stays wet a long time by the Rainy River! 25 acres of our property is plated to spruce, and we mow between the rows at least once a year, the rest of our 400 acres has lots of trails and wildlife openings to mow.

This is an older Bush Hog model 306.
The lower gear box seals were leaking pretty bad.
The pan/ stump jumper must come off to get at them. Not an easy task.
Even with the giant puller I made it would NOT budge so I had to cut it off and buy a new one.
While I had it in the shop I replaced some of the safety chains that had been mangled, cleaned it up then brushed on primer and 2 coats of paint. I've owned it for 15+ years and it always sat outside but I got rid of some other junk so have room to keep it in a shed now.
