Diesel biocide

Does anyone else add any biocide to their fuel? When I was driving sugar beet truck 15 years ago the fuel tank on their farm got contaminated, took me 1/2 hour to fuel the truck, the filters were plugged so bad, but never had a problem with the truck. We have had our JD4600 for 25 years of flawless service, so I'm not taking any chances! $34 for 16 oz, but it will last me the rest of my life. Power Service Bio Kleen, not an average snake oil!

I have used Bio Kleen with good success. Another thing to consider is controlling moisture in the tank. Algae cannot grow without moisture. Moisture is especially a problem with above-ground tanks. I have bottom drains in my fuel tanks which allows a drain-off of water. There is also a compound when applied to your dipstick, can indicate moisture.

yes, i use it as i had a 500 gal tank in the past get that stuff in it. so now like the combines before its stored for the year and some tractors will get a dose of biocide just as part of its maintenance. same as buying a tractor first tank get a dose.

Thanks for the positive replies! Our JD 4600 has a perfect fuel tank, 12.5 gal, tapered to the bottom like a funnel, with a drain on the bottom. The tap for the injector pump is up about 3 inches, so there is room for a few ounces of crud in the bottom, and I drain out a few ounces occasionally, no problems in 25 years.

The water-in-fuel problem arises when the fuel tank is only partially-full. As the tank breathes with normal air cooling and heating the tank "inhales" moist air. When the air inside the tank cools moisture drops out and settles to the tank bottom. Storing any diesel engine with a full tank prevents this occurrence.
JIC, I carry spare filters for the motorhome in a bay anyway.
Overdosing with biocide is just as bad as too little, if the directions are accurate. Biodiesel during long-term storage presents a different problem; stratification. The biodiesel will separate from the dino-diesel and settle to the bottom, and it has a natural affinity for water absorption.

I think plastic fuel tanks have reduced the condensation problem a lot, and keeping the equipment in a building helps a lot too. Our tractor garage isn't insulated very well, but the temperature inside doesn't change as much as outside.

Had to add it to 200 gallon fuel tank of Cat 65 0nce.
