electric nightmare

hi everyone,
took my generator and regulator off to get the generator rebuilt. don't have a smart phone, so no pictures taken. i assumed things would be marked and guess what, they aren't. the regulator has three terminals, all not marked. the generator of course has two terminals, also not marked. if that isn't enough, there are four wires, not three that hook up to the regulator. two go to the generator and the other two go somewhere inside where the gauges are. any ideas. no markings on either the generator or the regulator. not even what make.

Delco? I just put new regulators on two of them. I can't tell you for sure which posts they go on, but two go from the generator to the regulator, one should be Gen or Arm, the other Field. The other two would have been to a regulator with four posts originally. Those wires will be on the same post on the regulator.

Can you search the web for the wiring diagram for that make and model of tractor?

hi yes i know. thought of it well after i posted it. it's on a massey harris 50. have the feeling the electrical on this tractor was tinkered together. completely different generator, but it works.

Gas or diesel can make a difference as well as the brand and model.

Here are both wiring diagrams for the MF 50 from the Operator's Manual. I believe your MH 50 is the same, from history of overlapping models in the Ferguson, MH and MF history (and they use the same service manual). Some regulators had a fourth terminal under the base; you had to dismount the regulator and turn it over to see the terminal. YMMV if someone installed something odd ball on it.
