Good day all. I'm restoring a farmall 200. I bought it with a test light going to the alternator. Do I need this on or can I go without it. If I need it what terminal does the wire go on on the alternator. It was off when I go it but I believe it was on the top #2 terminal. Is this right. It's a 3 wire alternator. Thanks jeff

That would be used as an indicator light, not test light. #1 spade should have switched power. The indicator light belongs in series in that wire. The #2 spade goes to the alternator's battery post to sense system voltage for the regulator. Move the wire on the #1 spade to the #2 spade. Connect the wire now on the #2 spade to the loose wire on the indicator light and plug it onto the #1 spade. Put a good terminal end on the heavy wire on the alternator's battery post.

Most wiring for 3 wire alternator would have an indicator light on dash to no you a charging. sometime a small marker light can be added to cut out feed back or battery drain after alternator is turned off. the light would go on when charging and out when engine is shut off. Best you get a diagram for 12 volt 3 wire alternator wiring and see how it relates to what you are seeing.

Thanks guys...it's just some of the wires were off. So what your saying is to switch the #1 to the #2 spade and put the light on the #1 spade? This wire then goes back to the ignition/on/off button?

Yes, the wire currently on #1 belongs on #2. The disconnected wire on the light should go to the #1 spade terminal. It should have power when the key is turned on to excite the alternator. The light will come on when the key is turned on and go out when the alternator is producing power.
