farmall cub governor

Just bought 49 Farmall cub, and when we got it started it will only
run one speed, fairly high RPM. The throttle rod moves the
governor lever back and forth but RPM never changes. What do we
need to do?

The lever on the governor has a spring that connects to a linkage that controls the carb throttle butterfly. Check the spring I bet it's broken.

another thing to check is the bumper spring is not screwed in too far. it screws in from the front and has a locknut on it.you can loosen it off and because of the locknut position you can put it right back if that s not the problem. Dick

The spring is good, is there adjustment for governor spring?

do you mean the stud that sticks out the front of the governor that has lock nut? The spring is good.

When moving the throttle lever, does the carb linkage move at all?

yes it moves carb rod....wonder if carb is screwed up because had to pull choke to keep it running.
