Farmall m differential problem

Tore into my farmall m and when the transmission and differential are spinning the bull gears do not turn. I believe the problem is the differential. I do not know much about these but if the problem was one the bull pinions then the shaft would have to be snapped in order to make it not move? My next question is in order to remove the differential can it be done by only removing only the right side components like the right side brake assembly, final drive, bull gear, and bull pinon or do i have to pull both left and right side components to remove differential? Thanks for any input.

Or bull pinion or differential sides gear splines could be stripped.

I am not 100 percent certain, but I think removing only the right side items will allow it to be removed. I would probably pull both bull pinions first, they will have to be removed anyway. If the bull pinion splines are stripped you would probably want to pull the differential to clean it out anyway.

It will need to come apart under all circumstances. Keep images, and shims where they are now to assure proper life of the ring and pinion. Jim

Make sure before you pull the differential out that you obtain a dial indicator and check the ring gear to pinion backlash so it can be set back the same when you reassemble it.
