IH David
I have a Farmall M. Can you switch out a tricycle front end for a wide track? If so anyone know where to find one?

Lots of times they have been swapped out. You have some options a wide front - IH brand, Scwartz, I think there's another one also. Don't know if its not an IH front end if some adapters are needed. Couldn't say where to find one - helps to know where you live as its going to be costly to ship very far.

Welcome to YT forums and PartsSAP
From all Farmall Ms to include much later large frame IHC tractors the wide fronts are compatible. the "Y" brace that extends rearward on 6XX plus rowcrops may need to have modified mounting points at the rear pivot. Jim

Yes, they are commonly called "wide front." You may get some strange looks asking for a "wide TRACK." They may think you are looking for literal bulldozer style tracks for your tractor.

Where to find such a thing? You have to keep in mind that you're looking for an accessory for an 80 year old tractor, not a set of mudflaps for your brand new pickup truck. There's no specific place to find things like this. You have to do your own legwork and it may take some time. Keep your eyes open for old tractors sitting in the weeds as you're driving around. Try to locate any nearby tractor salvage yards. Seek out estate sales and auctions on old farms. Watch Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace.

Any IH wide front off an M, Super M, 400, 450, 460, 560 as well as the x06 series and the x56 series will fit. Unless you want an original style which would be off an M only.

If the OP is in a hurry he will have to get one from a parts yard and pay top money. Still a fair number of donor tractors with WFE to buy at auctions but they are not as numerous as they were 20 plus years ago. Especially if the OP wants an authentic M WFE.

I’d just add that while you can’t be picky based on the availability of a wide front, be aware that what you may find will likely be plum slap worn out, so budget for bearings, spindles, tie rod ends, etc.
Tough to check for that before clicking the buy button

I got very lucky. I bought a very nice Super MTA a while back from an old gentleman that had owned it for 50 years. It had both front ends with it. It has the wide front under it now. I have another M parts tractor but it has a narrow front too.

In my area anyway narrow fronts are easy to find, wide fronts not so much. If you get one off of a later tractor the saddle where it hooks in the back may be different. I bought a parts 560 some years back. It had wide front but there was about 3 inches of steel plates under each side of the saddle. Without the plates it fit my SMTA.

David, I have a good Schwartz wide front off a Farmall M that I have for sale on Craigslist. I live in East central MN. Depending on where you are located this may be an option for you. There are no welds. It's clean.

I’m sure he can answer this, being new here I think he lost track of this thread and posted another one. In the other thread he responded he is in Torrance, CA near LA.
