The right straw I was grasping at. Had one of my tractor ride friends come over who is not a certified diesel mechanic, just a good troubleshooter. We took the reman pump apart and looked at springs, valves and port passages and made the determination that there was no reason for it not to work.
He thought bench bleeding it would be worth a try and bingo, it pumped just fine. In my defense I thought I was doing what he did when I had the drill on it. Difference was I had the pump upright and was spinning it fast and he had it on its side with the high pressure fitting up and was turning it by hand.
Just never thought I would have to bleed a self priming pump and one would think at least one of the tricks suggested would have done something. Probably didn’t give them enough time. Anyway, bled the new pump that was already on the vacuum pump and thankfully he helped me get it in and verify pump pressure and we got power steering 🙂

A mechanic with common sense and the ingenuity to look things over are great friends to hand around.

and if we had a picture of that pump would have helped as we cant see way over there how you were bleeding it. and yes there is no reason to be spinning the pump fast to bleed it. turning it by hand will force oil out the outlet. no different than an oil pump off an engine.

Apparently you guys know what he's talking about.

I'm gonna guess this is an update on a previous thread about some peice of equipment or other maybe?

Updating on the original thread would be the proper procedure IMO.

Went and looked at a Jubilee Ford last week, had several guys look at it. He called last fall and said I would call him when I get caught up. Looked it over and it had no spark. He thought they replaced the condenser, but when he went looking for the old one, found the new set, installed the condenser and she was running. Should have went sooner but was afraid I would have been there all winter overhauling it.
