Ford 3550 shuttle shift issues

Hey All,
I just purchased a Ford 3550 with the shuttle shift. When you first start the tractor in neutral everything is good. The issue is trying to put the shifter into any gear it wants to grind once you get it into a gear everything functions properly.
You can select any gear other gear and use the shuttle shift for forward and reverse with no issues.
