Ford 801 shift lever removal

Trying to remove the shift lever on a 1959 ford 801 powermaster. Shifter is the type with a nut on top and key way. Watched YouTube video showing you removing nut and prying up on shifter while jiggling the shift lever. No dice. Have tried heat, gear puller and cussing at it but it won’t budge. Am I missing something?

It is on a tapered shaft with a woodruff key. Try tapping up on the lever down close to the base.
