Going over our NAA to get it in shape for future work.Took the timing gear cover off the front of the engine to check the insides. It looked fine except the wear on the fork was not even on the wear surfaces of the fork pads. The left side side pad had an even surface wear. The rigt side had a two surface wear pattern. The side toward the inside of the fork was worn about 0.009 inches more from the center of the pad to to the inside of the fork. The outside half of the right pad the pad was about 0.009 inches higher. The left pad measures .482 inches of thickness. The right pad measures .477 inches on the low side and .486 inches on the high side.
The goveror mechanism looks like it might have been replaced. The wear surface of the base shows no wear at all. The base goes exactly to the outside of the fork on both sides. It is riding on the left pad and on the high side of the right pad. We have probably put 50 hours on the machine since we got it.We would appreciate thoughts on what we should do about the pad surface on the right side pad. We think our options are to grind both pads to a smooth uniform height, leave the pads like they are, or try to find a different fork with even pads.
Thank you very much for any hrlp you can give us.
