What are folks using for gear oil in something like a Farmall C? I had some 80-90 and used the last of it, and I like to keep some on the shelf. Thanks!

I get Super Tech at Walmart for around 5 bucks a quart. My personal opinion is that it doesn't make much difference what you use.

I use the 80-90 weight in any rear end without a TA.

I use the cheapest gear lube in my Farmall C. I changed mine and it looked like thick molasses and had a bad smell.
I think it took 5 gallons or more. Some gear lubes are 140w. I think the thicker the better.
I'm required to use a gear lube with limited slip additive in my terramite and the front axle of my Kaw mule.

In my old tractors I use 85-140 gear oil. When the tractors were new 90 wt would be fine, but as years go by tolerances in bearings and gears open up. making thicker oil just as good. That's what I do. Stan.

And the new stuff pours out like motor oil, the old oil used to be like molasses. I usually short it 0ne gallon and add a gallon of Lucas Oil Treatment to thicken it up a little.

I use whatever I have on hand. I usually stay away from 140 since it is pretty stiff in the winter to get into bearings before they could possibly be run dryish from stiff cold oil in winter. I like that thermally stable oil from My local guy it pours like it was summer time in the winter so it flows well. I usually use a synthetic in the truck axles and transmission so I can move in winter with it cold.

I use 80/90 it's the most common gear oil for older transmissions .the newer ones use trans/hydraulic fluid

80/90 has worked for me for a long time. The only reason to consider 140 would be if it's worked hard on hot days and a lot of them.
