Getting parts shipped

I ordered some new injectors for one if my tractors. They came in a box wrapped in 3 layers of bubble wrap and at least 3 layers of packing tape on the outside the box. I thought that was weird, and really took some doing to open.

Inside the box were the injectors, just loose.

must have been the first day in the shipping department for someone. Lol. I think they will go back with a nice note inclosed.

I sometimes think packaging is excessive, but then I haul a tractor to an event on Illinois roads and think, Oh yeah that’s why 40 pounds of packing for a 3 pound whatever

If a package breaks open in transit it is often thrown in the trash at the shipper's loss, BTDT. Heavy pointy metal parts sliding around in a cardboard box can easily punch through the cardboard. Bubble wrap and fillers are a cheap way to reduce the chances of that happening.

i have gotten some auction stuff that was gun related and they wrapped tape to the point i wondered if someone was having a day thinking, "see how long it takes to get this open" its better then some very old shotgun shells i bought that was 70 plus years and put the one box in with some paper and a box 5 times bigger. time it got to me it was destroyed.

I noticed the DHL stamp on the return label, which made me think the injectors were drop shipped from overseas. So I entered the tracking number into the DHL website, and sure enough, your package originated in China. They were probably packed correctly when they entered the US in Cincinnati on July 30, but they were held and inspected at customs on July 31 before moving onto you. Those customs folks can be hell on boxes when they repackage. I doubt the injectors are damaged, they're made to withstand all sorts of vibration and as long as the protectors are still on the tips, I wouldn't worry about it.

Was there another label on the box itself under the bubble wrap?

Yes Customs probably fouled the packing up. 30 years ago my sister was an airline cabin attendant and regularly spent a night in Columbia South America. From time to time she ventured out of her hotel and bought 8 ounces of tea, then wrapped it in a small package. The joke was to count the number of various kinds of tape on the package by the time it got to Wichita, as a means of telling how many times the package had been opened and inspoected. That was before the various sniffer machines that can tell the contents without opening the box. As I recall there were typically at least three kinds of tape.

Then it is odd, unless DHL repacked an entire new box at their customs facility. If you have the ability to peel that top label over the other, I'd be curious to see what the other says underneath. If it has the DHL china label on it, it probably was originally shipped with the bubble wrap around the box.

I'm constantly amazed at how small items get packed in large boxes. Never understood the thought process there. This is the most outrageous example. They could have thrown these into a padded envelope and mailed them to me for a buck or two!

I believe some of the big box is so they don't get lost down behind a table or cabinet when processing in the multiple cross docks they make in transit.

A friend used to do antique car interior work, and got multiple packages per day.His wife said he spent half his time whining about parts so poorly packaged that it was a wonder they got there, and the other half whining about parts so over packaged that he had to wear out a razor blade cutting them open.He did say that parts that had been inspected by customs were a problem, but them opening his packages was a rarity.

Packed by someone in need of an attitude adjustment.
