Golf Cart Died

My 81 Yamaha G 1 died on me yesterday morning. I messed with it today, crankshaft was stuck, turned it backwards with the pulley and then went forward half a turn and stuck. New one isn't an option, guess I'm gonna learn how to overhaul a 2 stroke.

Those engines are simple to rebuild.

Pull the plug and see if the piston is moving when you rotate the crank. If it does. Most likely a broken ring hanging up in one of the transfer ports. You may get by with just having to remove the cylinder and replace the piston and rings.

If the rod does not move. Most likely a broken rod. Then the case will need to be split. The piston pin will need to be pressed out of the counter weights so that the rod and bearings can be replaced. A good cycle shop is recommended for this due to the weights must be positioned correctly when reassembled to balance the crankshaft. If it goes that far. Replace the crank seals while you are at it and use Yamabond 4 on the case halves.

Yamabond 5 is better suited for engines that are rebuilt often such as racing engines.

You might be doing an engine replacement instead of an overhaul.
My money is on you have a broken connecting rod.
I would check out the price of a replacement engine at"
A friend needed a new engine on his lawnmower/ He ordered it from small engine warehouse and had it shipped to his house.
I did the motor transplant.

Golf Cart engine is a 2-stroke. You won't find a replacement at your Small Engine Warehouse. There is a page on Facebook for Yamaha G1 Golf Carts. Also several Youtube videos on rebuilding your engine.

He's working on a Golf Cart. Not a lawnmower.

Mower engine will not bolt up nor use the CVT belt drive system from a Yamaha G1s 215cc two stroke engine.

Might add.. If you find a good completely rebuild engine for a G1. Don't drop a load in your drawers if the guys asking price is around $2500-$3000.

I'm betting this is one of those goofy things that runs the engine backwards to get reverse... If it had a transmission with an actual reverse gear, it would be less expensive and more user-friendly going forward to do a Predator swap. You need a Predator engine from Harbor Freight and a CVT (aka torque converter for you old school mini-bikers). Little bit of welding, hook up the throttle, and you've got a 4-stroke engine that idles. No more fussy-fragile 2-stroke shenanigans.

Yes this is one the motor runs backwards for reverse.

The oil injector pumps are know to go bad and there is no replacement for them. Many people delete the pump and run 75-1 mixture for fuel.
