Governor spring specification question .....

I have a basic understanding of what an engine governor does and why it does it .... the actual process is a bit fuzzy but even that I'm OK with (for now anyways). My question relates to the governor spring which is hooked up and is constantly (engine running or not) pulling (or trying to pull) the throttle to full opening.

So far so good? OK, here's my question. Does every engine (and the governor that comes with it from the factory) have a very specific overall LENGTH and STRENGTH for it's governor spring? It would seem to me that this would be the case. So a simple Yes or No is what I need to start .... PLUS any more information you can provide to enlighten me with this. Like if the answer is yes, where would one find that information?

The answer is yes. Where would you find the specifications for the springs? On the copies of the designing engineers part design specification documentation. In other words the average Joe blow has no available access to such things. JD used to provide technical drawings for parts but I am not sure it had this kind of detail. Lo and behold some joker is probably going to come up with the spring specs for an 8N Ford. 😀 (That is not exactly the smiley face that showed on my iPhone, but I am leaving it because it is funny!)

Yes and No. Sometimes a single spring will work for SEVERAL governor sensitivity choices. Springs GIVE speed, flyweights TAKE AWAY speed. Stanadyne/Roosa injection pumps for example need a spring change to change the speed droop from no load to full load. CAV DPA injection pumps have several springs too, but also have three holes in the governor control arm and three in the throttle shaft for several choices with one spring. Most farm tractors use 8-10 per cent governor regulation, no load to full load. Combines need 5-7 per cent, and generators are 3 per cent.
