Two evenings ago I was cutting weeds with the Allis 5020 and a heavy Ford rotary cutter and took out a steel fence post. I cut my teeth on non live power and my reflexes always pulled the power takeoff off as I hit the clutch. turning with the cutter on the light front of the 5020 causes the front to slide with the turn. Having to lift my right leg with my hand to hit the right brake I needed to stop before hitting the fence. I hit the clutch while I was lifting my leg I let the rotary cutter carry me to where the left front tire hit the post square and bend it over before I could pull the power takeoff lever. Put in a new post last evening so all is well'

My hands/feet are not as fast as a certain orifice I won't name. That thing slams shut fast enough to make my ears pop!

When something happens, I know what I need to do, but the legs don't respond like I want them to.

Best not to need them , better to slow down and make sure you have not forgotten anything . Check everything twice .

Went to visit some friends when their son was home from college and as I was sitting at the table talking with him one of my hand motions slapped my coffee cup off the table. Slapped it with my right hand, caught it with my left hand upright only spilling a few drops. Impressed us both.
There’d be a cup of coffee on the floor now. Snatched a dragonfly out of midair one time. He’d be safe today

I used to own a 1952 HF TO30. It had a hand clutch on the port side with a stick about 2' long. It moved a 6"D clutch in the transmission drive shaft to the differential. Effectively creating live PTO.
In the situation you describe(or grading snow) you suddenly got very busy with both hands and both feet, leaving the steering wheel unoccupied.
Left hand was on hand clutch, right hand on 3-pt lift lever, left foot on clutch, right foot on brake, and you hoped a tire didn't hit anything and spin the steering wheel.
Dummy me let a tractor dealer talk me into selling.

I can relate, I have to lift my right leg with my hand to climb over the transmission and shifter on all my tractors. I can kind of manage to get on the clutch on the MF 165 with my left leg, but it I find it easier if I give an assist with my hand. I find I try to anticipate things more than before. If it was in a hurry I would probably run over the fence post too.

My friend's dad goes to Florida every winter. Well in Florida he rode somewhere with a neighbor. The old neighbor used his right hand to lift and lower his right leg to operate the accelerator. He said that was the last time he ever rode with the neighbor anywhere.

I do ok in the car or truck. I have been thinking about getting a van with hand controls. My daughter helps with the wheelchair van. If I feel even slightly weak, I have her drive. One of Dixie's doctors is 60 miles and I have my daughter drive back. I want to continue to do what I can figure out how to do it. I do know what I can't do.
