<SIZE size="150"><s></s><B><s></s>How to make your own Gaskets.

Unfortunately for FX26D Owners not all for the Gaskets are available from Hoye as of yet. But that is not really a problem if you can make your own gaskets.

Here is a procedure That I devised to make my own gaskets. Gasket materials are readily available at many Auto Parts stores and come in rolls but you have to cut it yourself.

What I made was the intake manifold gasket as well as most of the water Pump gaskets, and supplemented it with the gasket available from Hoye.

one thing I would do is stay away from the Cork gasket material, I do not think that makes the best material. <e>

<SIZE size="150"><s></s><B><s></s>First thing you need to do is make a photo copy of the back of the part if it is small enough to fit on the copier. <e></e></B><e></e></SIZE>

<B><s></s>Next you cut out the, Photo copy of the flange area, because that will be your gasket. After you have it cut out then you place it on the gasket material. You will need to use some sort of glue material to hold it down. But make sure it will not permanently adhere to the gasket material.

I used a clothing Iron to get the material perfectly flat. <e>

<SIZE size="150"><s></s><B><s></s>Next when you have the templates glued down around the edge but not under the template, you use a hole die punch tool to cut the holes. You can get them at Harbor Freight for quite cheap. An alternate method might be to use a drill bit, but that would induce tear out, if you do not have backing material on both sides of the sheet.<e></e></B><e></e></SIZE>

Large Gaskets such as the oil pan can be purchased from Hoye.

Have Fun All; and, hope this helps someone that is in a bind finding the right gaskets.<e>

That sort of contribution is what newsgroups such as this are all about.

Hoye has a new gasket-making machine, but I don't know how it works.

Inspired by your posting, I'll be offering my account of fabricating a subframe.

Very nice! Thanks for the tip.

We have a cnc (computer controlled) laser cutter that we use to cut discontinued gaskets. There needs to be a reasonable demand since it takes a couple hours to draw up some of the more complicated gaskets. Once they are drawn up,however, we can just cut them as they are needed in just a couple seconds.

Just curious, Aaron, as to how your cutter gets to know what to do. Do you feed it an original discontinued gasket? Show it the part that gets gasketed? Program it from a gasket manual?

Alan,
My first choice is to have the part in my hand. This is not usually a problem now that we have so many parts tractors.

If it is a simple symmetrical gasket I'll just measure it &amp; draw it up in our CAD software. If it is a non symmetrical or complicated gasket like this
http://www.hoyetractor.com/storeimages/WPG-2000.jpg
(you can see that the holes are not evenly spaced, are placed around an oblong oval shape, there are notches, etc.
I will scan it and then trace it with the CAD software &amp; then fix any distortions caused by the scanning.

Beware when you scan or copy a gasket it almost always gets distorted somewhat. We tried lots of flat bed scanners and they all re-sized the image slightly.
