Hydraulic Quick Couplers Question

I will say a for sure positive maybe. We used ford couplers that had a pin and the ball style at the same time.

Well, the mix-and-match has been working for the hoses I ran from the rear remotes to the front of the loader for the grapple. Just not sure it's "best practice".

I figure as long as they catch and work no harm no foul.

The male ball and male poppet styles should work the same with the same compatible female Parker style connections. In theory the poppet might flow a bit more fluid, but they will work the same just fine.

There is a third male type that also works, it is harder to find and probably a bit more fussy to dirt, but it releases pressure as it couples. It has a tiny needle pin in the middle of the poppet, which bleeds out some fluid to make coupling much easier. I have a few on lines that like to pressure lock on me, really like them.

My disc mower has the pin style. One time the hose blew, so I grabbed one off the baler that had the ball style. The pin style must restrict fluid flow, because the mower arm would violently raise, even at power engine rpm with the ball style. Mark.

Actually, most info I have seen says the poppet type has a higher flow rating than the ball type.

The original hose probably had a restrictor orifice in it where the one from the baler didn't.
