IH motor

I have an old 4cyl IH motor that I brought back to life as the power plant for a wood splitter. It appears to not have been installed on tractor. Throttle lever is on the carb side towards the front and the there is a PTO belt pulley right about where the tractor seat would have been instlalled. No bell housing or trans connections at all. Issue: the is no fan, should there be one? I do not see a water pump or anthing that looks like a pump may have ever been installed. Is the pump internal or did some old IH motors circulate by gravity or convection once the motor heats up the coolant? Numbers on block are 251341R6 with an L below the 6. another stamp is 19 Y. a tag that is riveted on the block may have had some printing on it but the only thing left is 1381 etched into the right side of the tag. So I guess my main concern is the cooling system and maybe locating a service manual for this beast. Thanks for reading through all of this and thanks in advance for any info.

IH used several of their tractor motors as the basis of stationary power units. The smaller 113 cu in did not have a water pump in earlier units. They used the thermosyphon principle to circulate coolant. This is the principle that hot water rises and cooler water sinks.

I've never seen one without a fan though. I can't inagine why it wouldn't have one.

If no good answer appears, if you can post two-three clear pix, someone here"ll probably know what it is. If you can"t post pix, see my post with info to show under the "ASKE Engine?" post on Tractor Talk forum here on 8-11.
Binder books is supposed to have manuals for every IH engine/equipment, so that shouldn"t be a problem once the engine"s ID"d.
On the fan, does the crankshaft pulley or any other driven shaft have a flat place? Old engines used flat belts before v-belts came in, and there were various fan mountings. Are there any unused boltholes on the front of the engine? Good luck.

Pictures are a great idea. Do us a favor though, get the camera close enough to see some details and set your camera to "fill in flash" so there is some light on it. Post a pic of each side of the engine. If you can do that there is a very good chance that somebody on here will recognise it.

It'll help a lot.
