International Diesel Engine Help.

Good Afternoon thanks for the reply, with your advice and the advice of other members I pulled all lines off the injectors and put a dab of soapy solution on my finger and put my finger over the inlet of the injector. I had my son crank the motor and I felt pressure on my finger and it bubbled. The other three injectors I didn’t feel pressure or bubbles. So it looks like an internal seal went in that injector? It would make sense that the air would travel through the lines. View attachment 144812
3 with no pressure or bubbles, one with pressure and bubbles, pretty well indicates a failed injector to me. Dieseltech can likely tell you if he recommends rebuilding that one or replacing it.

Bad injector. It would be best to send that injector somewhere to be rebuilt or buy a new one.
I would also recommend adding a diesel additive every time you fill up, this helps with lubricity of the pump and injectors.

Thanks guys for your responses. I’m ordering a new injector and will have this one sent out, rebuilt and keep it for a spare. I do treat my diesel with the Power Service stuff in the grey bottle. I haven’t tried it yet but I also heard of guys adding little two stroke oil to diesel to help with lubercation of injectors and injection pumps on older equipment.

The grey bottle Power Service is Diesel Kleen + Cetane Boost, it has a lubricity additive in it. Adding some two-stroke oil won't hurt, I know Dieseltech has posted he uses two stroke oil in his diesels.

That injector tip is STUCK OPEN, when there's compression air blowing BACKWARD out the inlet. There's NO seal inside that's damaged. Injector needs removed for repair.

Thank You for your reply. I ordered a replacement injector and will send this injector out for repair and keep it for a spare.

Good Afternoon Everyone,
Just an update. I did order a new injector. It came the other day and I installed it today. I am going to take the old injector to a local diesel shop and have it rebuilt for a spare. I rebled the fuel system and started the tractor and it’s running like new again. No more sputtering, popping and smoking. No air in the fuel returns anymore. Throttles up great and runs beautiful. Like I said in my original post this is the first diesel tractor I’ve owned, I had gas tractors. I’ve learned from this and have a better understanding of a diesel fuel system as well as some troubleshooting. I want to thank each of you for your time with reading my posts and your replies with helping me to fix my tractor. Once again thank you.

Best Regards,
Justin

Good to hear, hopefully it will serve you for a while somewhat trouble free!

Yes Sir, I enjoy old tractors, I enjoy working on them and now have a little better understanding of a diesel and it’s a great feeling to have it up and running again. I’m glad it wasn’t the injector pump as they are pretty pricey. This is a great form and I’m sure I’ll run into more questions along the way. I’d eventually would like to restore it with my sons, I think it would be great to have them work on it with me and as the old saying goes “teach them while they are young”
