JD 302A part ID help

New User
Hi guys, need some help here. Hopefully someone is familiar with this unit. I've got a JD 302A loader, 1979 I believe. I've got a hydraulic fluid leak at some type of valve where it mounts to the transmission case on the right side. Looks like a pressure relief or regulator valve? It has 2 hydraulic lines & they both go up to the loader controls. It's spraying out from between the valve mating surface & the transmission case. I've looked online & was just at the local JD dealer with no luck. If I knew what the valve was called maybe? The last pic is from the rear underneath. I haven't pulled it off because It's out in the dirt & I didn't have enough stuff with me to clean the area well enough to open it up. I'd like to have parts on hand when I do pull it off.
Thanks in advance for any help offered!
I did just order a service manual but that'll be awhile getting here.

Shape wise that looks like the pressure control valve, mounted on the right side of the transmission. Can you get a picture or two a bit further back from it so we can confirm the area? The part catalog shows a couple valve arrangements based on the tractor serial number. The link to the catalog page below should be your valve based on serial number. Your valve would have a plug where the line that comes out of the lower port of the valve and up to an SCV, which you will not have if your tractor does not have and SCV and remote couplers.

Pressure control valve

Thank you, thank you!!! The tractor is out in the field & I'm at home so no luck with other pictures at the moment. Now, what is an SVC? & no, it has no remote couplers. The only lines go up to the loader controls. It's on the right side & was under the rear of the step plate before I pulled it off. I saw the valve in the link you posted at the dealer but why is it listed under steering??? Hopefully I just need those O-rings 7 & 8.
Thank you again Jim!

SCV = selective control valve = rear hyd control valve & breakaway couplers. I agree you need items 7 & 8
Thanks, Tx Jim, for posting the SCV info.

r-arm,
While you can match the sizes with general O-rings; I very much suggest you get those O-rings from John Deere, so there is no question of size, durometer or material in this location.

And clean the area before pulling the valve, you do not want to get crud in any of the ports.

That valve is shown with the steering because it prioritizes sending pressurized oil to the steering system before letting it to other functions.

Many thanks to both of you, you've been a great help! With the info you supplied I stopped by the John Deere dealer again on my way home from work today. They had both o-rings in stock so I bought 2 of each.
Cleaning, that's why it's still mounted on the tractor! I had just gotten the injector pump back from the pump shop Friday, put it on Saturday morning & ran it for about an hour mowing. Was running great & then the hydraulic leak happened. I had enough tools with me to get the step plate off & ID the leak. Cleaned the area as well as I could with a screwdriver, the air I had left in my portable tank & the brake clean I had left. I pulled the long bottom bolt out (hardest to get to), broke the other 2 loose & snugged them back up to make sure I wasn't going to have any problems there & that's where I stopped. Needs more cleaning for sure!!!
Without your help I'd still be screwing around trying to figure out what parts I needed so again, many many thanks!!!
Reed
