Someone might have installed that engine in it. Should be a 4 banger. Maybe it’s an American motors engine or maybe a Buick 🤷🏻‍♂️ plus u sure on the year?

Jeep bought the tooling for the V6 engine from Buick. The first AMC branded "Dauntless" 225 V6 engine was used in the 1966 -1971 models. Then Jeep sold the tooling back to Buick.

The way the lower radiator hose is routed. Makes me believe that the engine had been swapped.

At first glance of what is visible of the body. I thought I may have been looking at an aluminum bodied M422 Mighty Mite that was built between 1958 - 1962. But the Mighty Mite had a V4 AMC AV-108-4 air cooled engine.

CJ5
Should have had either an F-134 or F-161 four cylinder Hurricane engine.

Edited to add.. The CJ5 was the first civilian Jeep to have rounded front fenders..

looks like the classic Jeep/buick v6. so many Jeeps had "updates" and "improvements" over the years who knows. at least its an engine that would be put one of Jeep family of vehicles.

I goofed a few years ago and didn't jump on a desent "garage find" CJ5 "tuxedo Park" model was quite reasonable and in decent shape.

Does anyone know where to find a rebuild kit for it, as that one is seized
The Jeepster Man has them for around $1200. You would first need to tear the engine down and do any machine work needed (boring/honing cylinders, turning the crank etc). You will need to know what oversized pistons and undersized rod and main bearings you need before ordering.

Not running yet, as this v6 will never run again. For I have a 4.3 cheby vortec getting dropped in its place, as well as a 5 speed manual. Thought I’d give everyone a progress report.
