John Deere 301a

I have a jd 301A industrial tractor that the three point won’t work on. We bought this tractor used in 84, and it’s a 74 model, but anyway the three point won’t go up or down when I need it to, it will only move when it wants to I guess, it will randomly go up and down by itself

For starters you could insert a bore scope in hyd filler hole to determine if cam follower(shaded part) is not broken & located correctly in 3 pt control linkage. is L/D lever under seat set in position "D"?

Sounds as if 3pt control mechanism needs to set following the numerous steps discussed in a 301A tech manual.

I took it to the dealership, for I don’t have enough time for it after I started my 4010 restoration project. They told me that the linkage from the load control lever wasn’t working the way it should’ve, they also said that there was a half of a gear sitting on the bottom of the trans case. I guess that’s why I had no third gear!
