John Deere H pushrods

I now have the head attached to the block on my John Deere H and need to know how to put the rocker arm on and keep the tappet rods in position on both the tappet lever and the cam follower. I have never done this before!

Take the crankcase cover off and hold them in place. You should have plenty of room with the rocker arm adjusting screws backed off.

I have the crankcase cover off and don't see how I can hold the four tappet rods in place so that both ends are in their proper positions on the tappet levers and the cam followers and at the same time tighten the adjusting screws.

How I did it on my A. Put the push rod in each hole and then installed the rocker arm assy with adjusters backed off as far as they will go. Put each push rod in place and then adjusted the rocker arms snug enough to hold each push rod in place.

The H has lever tappets, entirely different from the other letter series.

I have the crankcase cover off and don't see how I can hold the four tappet rods in place so that both ends are in their proper positions on the tappet levers and the cam followers and at the same time tighten the adjusting screws.

Push the back end into the tappet and hold it in contact with the cam. Rotate the rocker arm till it seats on the front end of the pushrod. Hold it in position and turn the screw till it holds by itself. Do one at a time and you may need another pair of hands if you can't reach.
