M-F 'instant reverse'?

Does anyone have experience with this option available in Massey-Fergusons in the '60's thru 80 or so? I'm looking at a forklift tractor with this transmission.

I'm aware there's a torque converter. There is no traditional clutch, correct? Foot pedals to achieve forward and reverse motion? Engine must be idled to change directions?

Durable? I have searched and found a few threads about it here, the most informative one about a broken flex plate that required a split.

Anybody operate one? Works well after getting used to it?

Anything I should know? My thread in the MF forum didn't get much traction.

I have a backhoe with one
Its simple to operate
The forward/reverse pedal is tied into the throttle so the harder you push the faster you go.
I would think they would be just as handy in a forklift as it is in my backhoe

I have one that I've had for years with no trouble with the Reverse-o-mastic other than the often reported slam from F-R , low hours since total motor rebuild on the Perkins Diesel. Starts and runs great. No loader currently on it but I have one for it with the front mounted pump. Don't use it much since I stopped cutting hay. Would like to sell it . 🧑‍🌾

It's just as reliable as the hydraulic shuttle transmissions behind the 3cyl fords and of similar design. Found in Massey 30B, 40B and 50B. I wouldn't be afraid of anything in it. It's infinitely simpler than the SoS you just acquired.
