M/S Carb question

I recently took my carb apart and noticed the gasket between the two halves was virtually non-existent. If I replace (add) that gasket, and the gasket between the carb and intake manifold, will it throw off my carb settings? Will all the jets need to be re-adjusted? Or will it run just the same with that extra material in there?

Are you afraid to readjust them?
Yes it could possibly affect the idle mixture setting. See “The idle system” on page 6 of the linked MS carb manual. MS carb manual If the seal of the gasket was compromised above the idle jet 11 in the diagram on page 6 air could have been mixing into the fuel being fed into the idle circuit.
It would be less likely to affect the main jet setting because the “Nozzle air vent” orifice number 21 on page 7 of the linked manual is in the carb bowl itself so the proper amount of air is metered into the accelerator well regardless of the seal of the gasket. The rest of the “power circuit” is in the bottom half of the carb and the seal of the gasket has minimal effect on its function. Air leaking from a bad or missing parting gasket around the venturi and the main airway passage will affect the main jet mixture adjustment, but very minutely.

I'm no carb man, lol, so I'd rather not mess with it. It runs fine now so hate to make a new problem that I didn't have before.

I hated those M-S carb types that were on the Oliver 1850. My 1850, I found out, had one on it that was from a JD 4010 gas. Some idiot used JB Weld, when putting some of the brass back on. What a mess. So I got a Zenith from a JD 4010, had to do a little re-work of linkages, but it runs perfect now!
