MASSEY 255 FLYWHEEL

Good Evening:
I am working on a 255 with the 203 Perkins, I got it split tonight to replace the clutch and the flywheel is beyond repair it's all pitted up. looks like it was sitting in water. I bought the tractor knowing it needed a clutch. didn't expect this not sure if it can be cut enough while staying within spec. anyways I was hoping to buy a new flywheel at least that's what I though until I started shopping and can't seem to find one. maybe I am missing something, if someone could point me in the correct direction with a part number or a link that would be much appreciated.

Call one of the PartsASAP (YT's parent company) salvage yards and see if they have a used one, after you determine which one you need.

Add a general location to your profile, with that someone might have an idea of a lesser known salvage hard near your area.

thanks guys for the reply. excuse my ignorance how do I know if it is a independent or live pto? it has a 2 stage clutch. also has the 25 spline pto shaft. and the engine/ground positions on the pto selector lever by left foot.

It is hard to tell in the pictures, but it doesn't look that bad to me. Perhaps it can be turned by a automotive machine shop and reused. If you decide to have it machined, find a shop manual and determine the dimensions that have to be held during the rework.

You say you have a two-stage clutch, with engine and ground positions on the PTO lever, that is a live PTO. As used red MN posted the flywheel you need (P/'N 734861M91) is shown on page 81 of the 255 parts book.

I would agree with taking it to a shop that does flywheels, they should have or can get the allowable specs and see what they say about it.

You should get the Massey Ferguson Operator's manual and the Massey Ferguson Service manuals for your 255.

thanks guys i will take it to a machine shop and see what they say.
I suggest you know what the step dimension is supposed to be before you take to the machine shop. The shop will probably not know, and if they get it wrong the clutch will not work properly.

seen worse
I agree. If it could be sandblasted, then ground I think it would clean up pretty good.

If a few shallow pits remain after grinding it a reasonable amount that should be acceptable, this isn't a high HP monster!

And, as had been said, the "step dimension" is critical to a successful outcome.

The machine shop SHOULD have a book from the maker of their flywheel grinder with "specs" for most reasonably common flywheels or if NOT the shop should be able to call the mfg. of the grinder for info that didn't make the reference book.
