1941 Case VC Tractor

I bought this tractor for scrap price. The engine and the clutch were stuck.
I removed the plugs and filled each cylinder with MMO and reinstalled the plugs.
After a week and a half I removed the plugs and the starter. I used a big ma moo
screwdriver on the ring gear and rocked the flywheel back and forth to break it free.
After I got it to turn all the way over . I installed the starter and spun it with that.
To my suprise the oil pressure came up to 20 lbs. The book says a max
oil pressure of 20 to 25 lbs.
The magneto was off when I got the tractor and the guy had it rebuilt.
I installed the magneto, rebuilt the carb a TSX43 and started it.
Shut crap and corruption flew out of the vertical exhaust. Pennuts,
corn and what not. The guy I got it from said his dad fed the squilrls
penuts and corn.
The radiator leaked like a sive and the water pump also.
I bought a good used radiator for a VAC on ebay.
The main Rad is the same as the VC but the filler and outlets
are diffrent. I removed the ones from the VC rad and soldered them on.
Some one had the belt pully apart and screwed it up. I bought another good one
frome a bone yard. The bone yard sent my water pump to 3 diffrent places
for rebuild. Parts are not available. The 3rd place made the parts.
No 3 cylinder had 0 compression. I removed the head and found the valves
stuck open. I ground the valves and lapped them in.
I reinstalled the head and started it. It blew oil right out the exhaust stack.
I removed the head again and the pan. Pulled the pistons and removed the rings.
Puting the rings in the bore I found they had 3/16 end gap. I bought new rings
and checked them in the bore. I got 20 thousands ring gap now.
I started it again. No oil out the exhaust but then I noticed bubbles coming
out between the head and block behind the manifold. I got the head trued up.
They cut it 17 thousands. No more bubbles.
I bought 2 new front tires and replaced 1 rear tire with a good used one I had.
Had to buy a new stearing wheel also.

I fabricated a new dash pannel out of some auto body sheet metal I had.

I should have just parted and scrapped it out. But I am sturborn.

You are going to have LOTS of fun with it ... there a neat little tractor and sounds like you are doing it the right way ...

Have fun ... and THANKS for saving a antique ...

Dog Gone, Thank you for staying at the VC , you did a great job. The pictures were good also, and enjoy the ride. Jerry from Ohio

Dave;
Great job with the VC. I am very impressed with what you did with the instrument panel and Battery box.
I had my VC out for its first public showing this weekend at Richwood, Ohio. Ran it on the dyno at 27 horsepower, then hooked on to the pulling sled in the fun pull and made a respectable pull (no measurements). Also drove it in the noontime parade there. Was a real fun weekend with this tractor... Gene
