new Fergy with issues

I just bought a Fergy. Not sure which model or how to tell. Engine seems stuck, but was running within last ten years. Got a few 3 pt implements, wood splitter, shovel, York rake, maybe more stuff for $100.
Towed it home. Now- the clutch pedal goes down and up easily by hand. Does not seems to go into gear. Anyway to fix that short of splitting the machine? This will be a low priority project, but I am eager to drive it around.
Any advice is greatly appreciated
thanks in advance.

Gear box trouble, or motor locked? Assuming motor- pull plugs- try to turn motor by hand. If stuck- put in your choice of light oils. I like Marvel mystery oil first, followed by xylene-ATF mix as reqd. Take your time- exploit any movement (back-and fort, et cetera). You can also turn by jacking up and using gear train, via tire. Lay OFF of starter until she moves.

Ditto, you may want to squirt some Marvel mystery oil down the pug holes and let sit for a couple of days then try turning over by hand, big wrench on pulley nut.

Possibly as simple as gear shift forks stuck. All accessible top of trans/gear case. Not difficult to do as done so on my 57 TO35 several times. Many web sources available as to specific how-to. Youve already rcvd input if engine froze.

When you say the clutch goes up and down easily by hand, how easily? I would have to press my clutch pedal quite hard by hand to make it go down and it would come up by itself putting pressure on my hand the whole way. You may have a clutch throwout bearing stuck and need to split the tractor to rectify this situation.

yes clutch can be pushed down and up easily by hand -as if no contact with clutch pressure plate-throw out bearing at all. Shifter will move left to right very freely but not into any gear. I have ruled out shifter forks for the moment.
Is there any way to get in and tap on the pressure plate, T.O. bearing with out splitting the machine?
Are clutch disks etc available once I get her apart?
This machine looks like just the nuts for basic road maintenance, fire wood hauler, etc.
thanks again

With the clutch pedal that easy to move I would expect the throwout bearing to be stuck on its shaft and that will probably require the tractor to be split. The good part is that it isn't very difficult if you have a way to suspend the motor end to keep it from rotating. If not, block the front axle to the motor to keep the motor from rotating as you separate the two ends.

Remove the transmission cover to see why it won't go into gear. I'd guess that the shifter lever to have slipped out of its proper location due to some fast shifting attempt. That should be a easier fix that the clutch.

We had that problem with a MF 50 getting into two gears at once on a fast shift. As I recall that would lock the shifter. There was a way to go in through the fill plug and move one back into place. Never ever had that happen with the TE-20. You could shift it as fast as you wanted even without using the clutch if it wasn't loaded.

On the clutch, possibly the pinch bolt is loose and the pedal has rotated on the shaft. There is no key, it's just a friction fit. That's where you adjust the freeplay in the pedal.

On the transmission, common for those the collect water in the cases. It condenses up and collects on the shift rails and rusts them in place.

The stuck engine, check for liquid water in the cylinders. That will have to be sucked and blown out first. Then start soaking the cylinders with penetrating oil. Sometimes they will break loose. But if it is severely stuck, might as well tear it down and replace the pistons and liners.

A shop manual will be a valuable investment. It will more than pay for itself in peace of mind and mistakes not made!

I need to jump in and ask a clarification question. The shift pins and springs that you have as needing to be removed, what purpose do they serve? Should they be removed?

Also, I have seen on another tractor the same wires tying the forks together. Mine are missing, do I need to put them back?
